March 2025 Procreate Designs

Looking back on the art I’ve been making for the past few months I’ve done quite a bit of digital work.  I started really delving into Procreate when we went on Vacation earlier this year, and I haven’t stopped exploring the possibilities since.   While planning for our vacation in late February and early March of his year I opted to take only my camera and iPad.  No knitting, no sketch book, no art supplies.  This was the first time I’d ever taken only my iPad, with the intent of creating art while on a vacation.  I had a plan to limit my supplies and challenge myself to only using procreate.  My plan worked, I learned a lot about procreate and I enjoyed to process.   The biggest thing I learned was how very freeing being able to sit on the couch or the porch at night with just an iPad and a pencil was.  There was no figuring out where to put supplies, or how to juggle a sketchbook on my lap, or being confined to the table.  The other bonus ...

Stitching - Just Because Frog

Sticking on cards has been a way for me to combine my past hobby of embroidery with my passion for card making.  I usually stitch when we travel to "town," which is about a two-hour drive.  Living in a small town in rural Alaska, means we have to travel for some things like doctor appointments and a larger selection of groceries.

With this card, I've also tied in another little thing I like to collect, paint chips.  If the paint chip is a head-scratcher let me explain.  I'm an artist first and foremost and I love the color.  I will seek it out anywhere and all the paint chips in a hardware store are like candy to me.  I wish I could remember where I learned you could use a white plastic eraser to remove the text on paint chips, but that was a game-changer for me!  Now I could use them like any other paper in my card-making.

I started this card with the happy frog face and selected a color palette of pink and green to build the card.  I had a few paint chips already die-cut in my stash and this green one happened to match the frog.

I used a cover plate die from Taylored Expressions to cut the pale pink cardstock and then trimmed it with the largest of the stitched rectangles.  I mounted the pink panel onto a kraft card base, added the paint chip at a slight angle, and then layered on the frog with a bit of foam tape.  I stamped the sentiment onto a label and added it will foam tape as well.  To complete the card I added a few pink enamel dots.  Turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself.
