Happy Thanksgiving - Blending Copic Colors

Image
Once I got on board the Copic marker train I fell in love. I would say Copic coloring is my second go-to technique for making cards.  My first love will always be ink blending, but we're here today to talk about Copic coloring.   I learned to use my Copic markers watching dozens of YouTube videos, specifically Kelly Taylor videos .  Kelly is a colorist and card maker, with a skill for crafting scene cards.  Watching her videos taught me how to blend a rainbow of colors to create something other than a traditional color blend of light, medium, and dark in a color family.  For today's card, I'm using the tips I've gleaned over the years of watching Kelly's videos . I started this card by stamping the birch leaf from the Tim Holtz Autumn Blueprintsketch stamp set in Gina K Amalgam ink.  I added the sentiment from Colorado Craft Company's Thankful set.   In the Fall, birch trees turn from a yellow-green to a golden yellow.  With that in min...

Same Technique - Two Inks

Image
Inspired by a card I saw on Instagram designed by @mindyeggendesign .  I was captivated and inspired by the background colors of here Swirly Snowflakes with Embossing Glaze  card.  I set about to build a similar background with the supplies I had and ended up creating two versions.

Snowman Trio - We Wish You a Merry Christmas

Image
I'm the first to admit, I love a good scene card, but I'm generally too lazy to build one.  Masking all the things to create the layers is not my thing.  These three cards are about a deep as I usually go into scene building, and they turned out so cute.

Mopping Up the Leftover Ink for Later Backgrounds

Image
Never waste the ink or the paint on the palette.  If I've been watercoloring or making backgrounds I always mop up the leftovers with another panel.  That was the beginning of this card.  The leftover color pallet from watercoloring the Bright Snowflakes card.  I kept the rest of the card very basic. Using Versafine ink, I stamped the sentiment and then stamped the ornament and sting part accordingly.  I added Perfect Pearls to the bubbles on the ornament.  End of story. Let it Snow - Not All the Cards Have to be Christmas Cards

Image
I don't know about you, but this time I year I see a lot of Christmas and Holiday Cards and not much else.  As makers, I feel like we get hyperfocused on holiday cards and forget about the other kinds of cards we could be making.  Birthdays still happen in the winter and we still want to keep in touch with friends and family, don't we?

Layering Distress Oxide and Distress Inks

Image
It's no secret that I'm a Distress Ink addict.  One of my favorite things to do is to watercolor with them, and as of late I'm hooked on layering them to create depth.  The steps I used to create this card are very similar to the steps I used to create the Merry & Bright Card and the Bright Snowflakes Card .

Scene Building With Dies and Ink

Image
I really admire the scene builders out there.  It's really not my strong suit, probably because I'm not a huge fan of masking all the things while I'm stamping.  However, a while back I watched a Laura Bassen video and I found a technique that totally works for me and I've been building like crazy ever since.

Bright Snowflakes

Image
I appreciate traditional Christmas colors as much as the next maker, but I love pushing the envelope with color combos and this card is no exception.  Bright snowflakes of red, green, orange, and gold.  Inspired by my own card from earlier this week and a color palette on Pinterest, I set about to create another background.  What I got was a panel that just popped!  I love how this one turned out, so much in fact I couldn't bring myself to add anything else to the card.   Using my usual water smooshing technique to create a background with Distress Inks in Wild Honey, Lucky Clover, Spiced Marmalade, Festive Berries, and Ripe Persimmon.  Onto stamping with the Snowflake background stamp using Versamark ink.  Shake on a bit of Metalic Platinum embossing powder. After those steps, I had a nice background, but I wanted the flakes to pop a bit more.  I squished a bit of each color onto my glass media mat and watercolored the snowflakes with the sa...
