Looking back on the art I’ve been making for the past few months I’ve done quite a bit of digital work. I started really delving into Procreate when we went on Vacation earlier this year, and I haven’t stopped exploring the possibilities since. While planning for our vacation in late February and early March of his year I opted to take only my camera and iPad. No knitting, no sketch book, no art supplies. This was the first time I’d ever taken only my iPad, with the intent of creating art while on a vacation. I had a plan to limit my supplies and challenge myself to only using procreate. My plan worked, I learned a lot about procreate and I enjoyed to process. The biggest thing I learned was how very freeing being able to sit on the couch or the porch at night with just an iPad and a pencil was. Inspired by a card I saw on Instagram designed by @mindyeggendesign. I was captivated and inspired by the background colors of here Swirly Snowflakes with Embossing Glaze card. I set about to build a similar background with the supplies I had and ended up creating two versions.
I started with Distress inks and blended the colors to get my desired color effect. I swapped the embossed snowflakes for stamped flakes. Because of the water-reactive properties in Distress Inks, you can stamp images using just water! I used a spray bottle with a fine mister and spritzed the background stamp and the end result was a soft watermark look. From there I used some acrylic paint in both silver and white, that I think with a little water, to add some additional splatters. To complete the first card, I mounted the panel on some glitter card stock before adhering it to a white card base. The finishing touch was adding the Merry Christmas die cut from the same glitter card stock.
Version two was created with Distress Oxides. I followed many of the same steps as I did with the first card. Background blended with the same colors and splattered with the same paint. I ended up with a big water splotch on the card that had to be covered, so I opted for the stitched tag and a stamped sentiment in place of the die-cut words. The paint splatters are more subtle on this version and the snowflakes almost seem to glow.
