Looking back on the art I’ve been making for the past few months I’ve done quite a bit of digital work. I started really delving into Procreate when we went on Vacation earlier this year, and I haven’t stopped exploring the possibilities since. While planning for our vacation in late February and early March of his year I opted to take only my camera and iPad. No knitting, no sketch book, no art supplies. This was the first time I’d ever taken only my iPad, with the intent of creating art while on a vacation. I had a plan to limit my supplies and challenge myself to only using procreate. My plan worked, I learned a lot about procreate and I enjoyed to process. The biggest thing I learned was how very freeing being able to sit on the couch or the porch at night with just an iPad and a pencil was. There was no figuring out where to put supplies, or how to juggle a sketchbook on my lap, or being confined to the table. The other bonus ...
It's time to break out of a rut and move away from coloring, hand-coloring cards is amazing but time-consuming. It's July and I've decided to get a head start on the holidays by creating Christmas Cards this month.
My card was inspired by this pin from Stamping with Loll.
Each stitched tag was stamped with Stampin' Up tree using Distress Oxide Ink in Peeled Paint. The sentiments were stamped with, you guessed it VersaFine Onyx Black Ink, onto the stitched banners.
I dug out my eyelet setter and punched a hole in the top of each tag. I used a bit of embroidery thread to add string to each tag.
I created one prototype of the card before completing a full set, which gave me a map to follow. Once all of the elements were created I did a rough layout of each card. After the pieces for each card were roughly laid out, I added adhered the ribbon to the woodgrain panel, added white foam tape to the back of each panel, and secured the panel to the card base. Then I layered each of the remaining elements onto the front of the panel in the order of tag, deer and finally the sentiment.
These cards are clean and simple, yet very elegant. I adore the simple pops of color and the crisp design lines.
