Looking back on the art I’ve been making for the past few months I’ve done quite a bit of digital work. I started really delving into Procreate when we went on Vacation earlier this year, and I haven’t stopped exploring the possibilities since. While planning for our vacation in late February and early March of his year I opted to take only my camera and iPad. No knitting, no sketch book, no art supplies. This was the first time I’d ever taken only my iPad, with the intent of creating art while on a vacation. I had a plan to limit my supplies and challenge myself to only using procreate. My plan worked, I learned a lot about procreate and I enjoyed to process. The biggest thing I learned was how very freeing being able to sit on the couch or the porch at night with just an iPad and a pencil was. There was no figuring out where to put supplies, or how to juggle a sketchbook on my lap, or being confined to the table. The other bonus ...
I began the coloring challenge with this birdhouse stamp and my marker stash. I was inspired by Kathy Racoosin at The Daily Marker and her Day One Video on how to blend markers using what you have in your stash, even if they aren't copics.
I dug out my Sharpie pens, Bic Mark-it pens, and my Zig Writer markers. The first card turned out so well I kind of went a little crazy and made five variations of it.
I used Bristol paper and stamped all of the images using VersaFine Onyx Black ink, which worked fantastic with my markers.
I even used a color palette from Southern Living Magazine. This was my favorite card in the set. I just love how these colors seemed to pop.
The purple and green color combo was my least favorite. This reminded me a bit too much of Halloween, but when I posted it on My Facebook Page it got rave reviews and a lot of people loved the colors.
This was variation number two of the green and purple combo, better, but still not my fave. I've been learning to use my color wheel, build color palettes, and push myself out of my comfort zone more through this coloring challenge.
It took me three days to complete this set of five cards, but it was kind of a rainy weekend. The rainy weekend made it easy for me to stay in my studio and create.
On a final note, this birdhouse stamp is a Hero Arts Stamp, dated 1996. If you'd like to seek one out I think eBay is gonna be your best tool, good luck.
