How I Got Into Stickers and What I Wanna Try Next

Oh the rabbit trails I’ve traipsed down. Some were great until they burned out…handmade cards. Some are still running wild in the woods…sticker designs.  I touched on sticker design in the Cups of Joy post, which tickled an idea in my brain, read to the end to find out about the idea.  First humor me, and get in the way back machine to take a wander back six years; to a conversation over a gift shop counter in a small town in Alaska.

If you’ve been around for a hot minute you’ve heard me mention my friend Piper, who fed the monster that became the handmade card business. We’ve put that monster out to plaster, but if you wanna read that story you can check out this post.

Today we’re here for the sticker story and the influence Piper played in the fun I have designing stickers.

The sticker journey started with a one question in a casual conversation one afternoon…

“Have you about making stickers?”

I know I looked at her like she had three heads.  My internal dialog went something like this - Stickers?  Was she nuts?  Stickers are cheep and who would buy them? My brain had immediately gone to the world of cheep paper stickers for slapping on grade school papers. It honestly kind of icked me out.

I know the look on my face clued Piper into the need for explanation and education on the growing trend in vinyl stickers.  Turns out people love vinyl stickers and they decorate their water bottles, coffee tumblers and even their cars.  What?  Yep.  She pointed me to Sticker Mule.  What was there really to loose.  I decided I try one sticker.  ONE!  I was convinced people wouldn’t buy them and that would be done and dusted.  Wrong!

Fast forward six years and I now have over 50 printed sticker designs, 59 to be exact.  59 stickers I’ve printed over the course of six years!  So much for Piper having three heads and being the crazy one.
Stickers have become something I love creating and I’m now on a journey to build this into something more.  I have 18 designs sitting on my iPad, with one new one in production right now.

So that idea that tickled my brain - quarterly sticker packs.  If you’re a part of the sticker people you’ll be intrigued.  I’m thinking possibly as pre-order, maybe as an annual subscription, somewhere between 3 and 9 stickers and somewhere between $12 and $20.  Got your attention?  Read on and help a girl out.

I have a survey to gather info to build the sticker future.  If you made it this far through the post, I’d love it if you’d take one to two minutes of your time to share your thoughts.  I’m genuinely looking for art outlet that doesn’t take a ton of space to store, I can easily travel with it, and might supplement my hobby a tiny bit.  If you’re all in take the survey and know that I appreciate your feedback.
