Bouquet #1 - February 2026

Trying new techniques is always a great way to stretch my creative muscles. I’ve never been one to stick myself in a box, or niche down as they say.  I’m more of a try it and my style will come through regardless of the work I’m creating.   All of that to say I’ll be exploring digital collage for the month of February using only flower bouquet layouts.  This idea came together in pieces, not all at once as you might think.

I think the spark started when I watched the replay of Jennifer Nicholas’ Creative Hangout with KellyBurke.  In this episode they showcase Kelly’s new Procreate brush release Botanical Silhouettes.  Both gals build a floral piece.  I’d already been playing with Kelly’s Botanical Sampler when I watched this video.  I already had one piece created with a vase and a bit of a potted plant vibe on a textured mixed media background, as you can see in bellow.

Then the episode she did of the Creative Hangout with Alaina Jensen fanned the flames further.  Both Procreate gals that I enjoy watching and learning from.  In this episode they talked about Alaina’s new brush release - Midcentury Magic which if you’re a Procreate artist you can grab from her website.  I of course have this set and several others Alaina has designed.  Both gals designed a midcentury take on a potted plant.

That episode inspired me to play a bit more with the idea of bouquets, especially with Alaina’s use of a rectangle to create a shelf for the her pot to sit on.   That idea stewed in my head for a bit while I worked on a few knitting projects.  Then one morning about a week ago I started Bouquet #1.

Bouquet #1 - 2026 January

After building Bouquet #1, the idea grew a little more when Kelly Burke sent out her monthly newsletter and announced Februallge for the month of February.  While I liked her idea, I hate prompt lists.  Sorry, not sorry.  Prompts are a road block to creativity for me.  I’ve tried them a dozen times, a dozen different ways.  They just don’t work for me, but I digress.

Stay tuned for Bouquet #2 and more about my journey into collaging bouquets though the month of February.
