Looking back on the art I’ve been making for the past few months I’ve done quite a bit of digital work. I started really delving into Procreate when we went on Vacation earlier this year, and I haven’t stopped exploring the possibilities since. While planning for our vacation in late February and early March of his year I opted to take only my camera and iPad. No knitting, no sketch book, no art supplies. This was the first time I’d ever taken only my iPad, with the intent of creating art while on a vacation. I had a plan to limit my supplies and challenge myself to only using procreate. My plan worked, I learned a lot about procreate and I enjoyed to process. The biggest thing I learned was how very freeing being able to sit on the couch or the porch at night with just an iPad and a pencil was. There was no figuring out where to put supplies, or how to juggle a sketchbook on my lap, or being confined to the table. The other bonus ...
What a week. Not sure how it got to Friday but here we are. I’ve been trying to get all my ducks in a row for the new year. As a result, have spent way more time on the computer and nowhere near enough time at the studio table creating.
That it's for makes this first week of January, but other things that happened on the table. I finally have a full watercolor palette. These are all Windsor & Newton Cottman Watercolors, consider to be their student grade watercolors. I snagged the last of the colors as part of a buy one get one half off at Michaels last weekend.
I love how compact it folds up. The metal trays also hold all of my sewing goods which made this an even better buy in my opinion.
I did find a bit of time to finally try some tone on tone coloring using distress ink blending with COPIC marker to make the colors really pop. It was a lot of fun and totally saved one card from going in the bin instead of the basket for finishing.
I started with these floral cards. First stamping with the floral, then ink blending, adding the COPIC coloring, and then the sentiment. Each one was then die cut and added to a card base.
The baby cards came next. Tone on tone is so cute with these. The onesie is my favorite. I’ll be making more of these for sure.
Let’s look at what else came off the table this week. This beauty was a custom order. I forgot to snap a pic of the other one before they went off the table and out the door. This was made using Tim Holtz's cracked leather paper and a technique he shared in one of the Facebook demos a couple of months ago.
I also spent quite a bit of time getting caught up on finishing the zillions of cards that were on my desk. Okay, it was only 78, but that's a lot of cards to put gut and branding in, photography and package.
In other studio news, while not something that came off the table, there was a new addition. While I was buying watercolors at Michaels I also snagged a fantastic sewing table for my sewing machine. This is the year I have vowed to sew on paper to build some new card styles.
