March 2025 Procreate Designs

Looking back on the art I’ve been making for the past few months I’ve done quite a bit of digital work.  I started really delving into Procreate when we went on Vacation earlier this year, and I haven’t stopped exploring the possibilities since.   While planning for our vacation in late February and early March of his year I opted to take only my camera and iPad.  No knitting, no sketch book, no art supplies.  This was the first time I’d ever taken only my iPad, with the intent of creating art while on a vacation.  I had a plan to limit my supplies and challenge myself to only using procreate.  My plan worked, I learned a lot about procreate and I enjoyed to process.   The biggest thing I learned was how very freeing being able to sit on the couch or the porch at night with just an iPad and a pencil was.  There was no figuring out where to put supplies, or how to juggle a sketchbook on my lap, or being confined to the table.  The other bonus ...

Watercoloring with Distress Ink Refills and Perfect Pearls

Did you know that you can watercolor with your Distress Inks and reinkers?  It's true!  It's totally one of my favorite techniques.  This card was started as a way to mop up some leftover ink from a previous card.  I'm definitely in a Distress Ink phase right now.

We're never too old for stocking stuffers!  I'll not disclose my age, but if we're home at Christmas time I always remind my Hubby he has to fill my stocking for Christmas morning.  I think he rolls his eyes when I'm not looking, but he fills it anyway. Today's Gift Guide is a one-stop-shop kind of thing, all little goodies for you stocking stuffing needs from Scrapbook.com .  All of the products are linked below!  Happy Shopping!!

Layering Distress Oxide and Distress Inks

It's no secret that I'm a Distress Ink addict.  One of my favorite things to do is to watercolor with them, and as of late I'm hooked on layering them to create depth.  The steps I used to create this card are very similar to the steps I used to create the Merry & Bright Card and the Bright Snowflakes Card .

Scene Building With Dies and Ink

I really admire the scene builders out there.  It's really not my strong suit, probably because I'm not a huge fan of masking all the things while I'm stamping.  However, a while back I watched a Laura Bassen video and I found a technique that totally works for me and I've been building like crazy ever since.

2020 Storage Gift Guide

I know what you're thinking, who wants storage solutions for Christmas.  Honestly?  Only EVERY MAKER I KNOW!  This is like a secondary hobby for any maker.  We're always looking for ways to sort or supplies.  These are just a few of my faves. Wire Baskets - Not just any wire baskets, but wire baskets that fit a pegboard.  These have been a game-changer for me.  I store my Distress Oxide pads right next to my desk in these baskets and I use them so much more now. Rolling Storage Cart - This is only one version of rolling cart in my studio.  These were part of the upgrade that I did over the summer.  I wanted more surface area for things but wanted it to be mobile.  When I don't need the surface they roll under my desk.  I store my watercolors, ink refills, paper scraps, label maker and so many other things in the drawers. Metal Pegboard - I love these so much!  They look pretty, are super sturdy, and secure to the wall in six...

Bright Snowflakes

I appreciate traditional Christmas colors as much as the next maker, but I love pushing the envelope with color combos and this card is no exception.  Bright snowflakes of red, green, orange, and gold.  Inspired by my own card from earlier this week and a color palette on Pinterest, I set about to create another background.  What I got was a panel that just popped!  I love how this one turned out, so much in fact I couldn't bring myself to add anything else to the card.   Using my usual water smooshing technique to create a background with Distress Inks in Wild Honey, Lucky Clover, Spiced Marmalade, Festive Berries, and Ripe Persimmon.  Onto stamping with the Snowflake background stamp using Versamark ink.  Shake on a bit of Metalic Platinum embossing powder. After those steps, I had a nice background, but I wanted the flakes to pop a bit more.  I squished a bit of each color onto my glass media mat and watercolored the snowflakes with the sa...

Using Distress Backgrounds for Holiday Cards

Last week I did a short Live on Instagram showing some behind the scenes (BTS) of my creative process.  I made a few backgrounds with Distress Oxide inks.  Once the live was over I posted a quick pic of two of the background with a poll asking my followers if they thought I could turn them into cards.  Making background from Distress Ink and Distress Oxides is one of my favorite techniques. It's very cathartic and relaxing to get lost in the ink and water magic of it all.  When I create backgrounds I never know if it will be a full background or if it will end up in the die cut machine.  It all depends on the end result.  I often use this technique to open up the creative ideas locked in my head.  It's my go-to for when the mojo is a little stuck. The background for Merry & Bright was created with  Peacock Feathers, Wilted Violet, Tumbled Glass, and Twisted Citron blended so beautifully for this card. The snowflakes from the Happy Holidays wer...
