Looking back on the art I’ve been making for the past few months I’ve done quite a bit of digital work. I started really delving into Procreate when we went on Vacation earlier this year, and I haven’t stopped exploring the possibilities since. While planning for our vacation in late February and early March of his year I opted to take only my camera and iPad. No knitting, no sketch book, no art supplies. This was the first time I’d ever taken only my iPad, with the intent of creating art while on a vacation. I had a plan to limit my supplies and challenge myself to only using procreate. My plan worked, I learned a lot about procreate and I enjoyed to process. The biggest thing I learned was how very freeing being able to sit on the couch or the porch at night with just an iPad and a pencil was. There was no figuring out where to put supplies, or how to juggle a sketchbook on my lap, or being confined to the table. The other bonus ...
Hello Lovely. I couldn't go a full week without something stitched. This card was made on National Coffee Day, which was this past Saturday. If you follow me on Instagram you've already seen it, but it's too cute not to share again.
I started by using the blank stitch grid from MFT to build my own pattern for this one. I used the MFT Cross Stitch Scalloped Tag die to cut a tag from gray cardstock. I stitched my design using DMC size 5 thread in White and #336. I cut a second tag from the same gray, without the stitch guide to back my completed tag. I stamped the sentiment using "smile" from the Simon Says Stamp Sketched Flowers set and "coffee" from the Honey Bee Flaky Sentiments set. The tag was completed by adding some organza ribbon and a bow with a scrap of the DMC #336 from my stitching.
To create the card, I cut a white cardstock panel with my favorite Stitched Rectangles dies from Simon Says Stamp and added Distress inks in Chipped Saphire and Stormy Sky using the retired Echo Park Micro Dots stencil. I mounted the completed panel onto a mat of navy cardstock before adding it to a white card base. To complete the card I adhered my completed tag.
For this card, I created a matching envelope with the same stencil and Distress Inks. This was my first time doing this, it was easy and adds a nice bit of extra polish. This was quite easy to do. I slipped a piece of scratch paper under the flap to protect the rest of the envelope. Then I laid the stencil over top and applied the Distress Inks. I removed the scrap paper and ta-da, matching envelope.
Thanks for swinging by today. I hope you're inspired to try creating matching envelopes for your cards.
