March 2025 Procreate Designs

Looking back on the art I’ve been making for the past few months I’ve done quite a bit of digital work.  I started really delving into Procreate when we went on Vacation earlier this year, and I haven’t stopped exploring the possibilities since.   While planning for our vacation in late February and early March of his year I opted to take only my camera and iPad.  No knitting, no sketch book, no art supplies.  This was the first time I’d ever taken only my iPad, with the intent of creating art while on a vacation.  I had a plan to limit my supplies and challenge myself to only using procreate.  My plan worked, I learned a lot about procreate and I enjoyed to process.   The biggest thing I learned was how very freeing being able to sit on the couch or the porch at night with just an iPad and a pencil was.  There was no figuring out where to put supplies, or how to juggle a sketchbook on my lap, or being confined to the table.  The other bonus ...

The Birds

Day 23, the birds.  This grumpy looking bird stole my heart when I got my order from Simon Says Stamp last week.  I knew he had to be stamped and colored.  Ready?  I mixed things up a bit by stamping the birds onto white cardstock with VersaFine Onyx Black ink.  I know shocking right?  Then I colored them with Prismacolor Scholar colored pencils.   These birds are from an IndigoBlu stamp set and were so fun and easy to color.  The birds fit two to an A2 size piece.  Once they were colored, I cut them out with a stitched rectangle die, also from Simon Says Stamp.  I pulled patterned paper from my pre-cut stash and cut it using the largest stitched rectangle die.  I opted to create these cards without a sentiment. 1 Background Stamp 3 Ways

I'll start this post by admitting that this is my favorite background stamp.  It was my first background stamp purchase and I simply love it.  If you're interested in having one of your very own, you'll find a link below.  Now let's talk about coloring! I've made a number of cards using this stamp and decided while I was participating in the  The Daily Marker 's 30 Day Coloring Challenge I would try some coloring experiments.  Here's what Day 17 through Day 21 looked like. We've been to this movie before, all of the images were stamped on Bristol Paper using VersaFine Onyx Black ink.  I've found this combination to be the best for the mediums I use.  It gives me a clean sharp image every time. On Day 17 I used colored Prismacolor Scholar colored pencils and blending pencil.  The color palette I chose was inspired by this pin .  I just love the bright orange, blue and green combination.  For this image, I worked with sh...

Stampin' Up "From the Garden" Card Set

On Day Six, I started with this large flower stamp from Stampin' Up.  I bought this stamp some time ago on eBay, after having checked out the same stamp at our library.  Yes, we have an amazing library where you can check out stamps and stamp pads, but that's a story for another time. All of the flowers were stamped on to Bristol paper with VersaFine Onyx Black Ink.  I really love the VersaFine ink, it gives a very sharp clean line image every time. The first flower image I colored using Prismacolor Scholar colored pencils, layering color and blending as I went.  I love how smooth these pencils color and how well these pencils blend together.  These are a great quality with a lower price point if you're exploring colored pencil options. While working on these I ordered a set of Arteza Watercolor Pencils.  I'd been looking for a new set of watercolor pencils that laid down rich vivid color.  I can say I finally found the perfect watercolor p...

The Birdhouses

I began the coloring challenge with this birdhouse stamp and my marker stash.  I was inspired by Kathy Racoosin at  The Daily Marker  and her Day One Video  on how to blend markers using what you have in your stash, even if they aren't copics. I dug out my Sharpie pens, Bic Mark-it pens, and my Zig Writer markers.  The first card turned out so well I kind of went a little crazy and made five variations of it. I used Bristol paper and stamped all of the images using VersaFine Onyx Black ink, which worked fantastic with my markers. I even used a color palette from Southern Living Magazine.  This was my favorite card in the set.  I just love how these colors seemed to pop. The purple and green color combo was my least favorite.  This reminded me a bit too much of Halloween, but when I posted it on My Facebook Page it got rave reviews and a lot of people loved the colors. This was variation number two of the green and purpl...
